Check out this game on my TpT store!

Ready to upgrade the classic “two truths and a lie?” Look no further! You Lie! takes elements from the classic icebreaker, adds a focus on argumentation and public speaking delivery skills, and turns it into a small group game kids will love to play again and again. You’ll love this activity because it challenges students to hone their ability to craft convincing arguments while reading their peers’ nonverbal cues. Here’s how it works:

How to Play

Divide students into small groups, with one acting as the judge per round. The remaining students draw a prompt and a “Truth” or “Lie” card. They then have three minutes to compose an argument on their argument template and present it. The judge determines who’s truthful and earns points for correct guesses. Roles rotate each round.

Why it Works

Nonverbal Delivery: Students learn to master their nonverbal cues to either sell a lie or present the truth convincingly.

-Small Group Collaboration: The game fosters a collaborative environment as students work together to navigate the prompts and the judge’s expectations.

-Argumentation: Whether fabricating or telling the truth, students must structure a compelling argument that can sway their peers using a structured argument template.

-Icebreaker: This game is a fantastic way to break the ice in any classroom setting. It encourages students to interact and communicate in a low-stakes, fun context.

“You Lie!” is more than just a game—it’s an educational tool that blends critical thinking, public speaking, and collaborative skills into one fun activity. Perfect for the start of the school year or any time you want to inject some energy into your classroom, “You Lie!” will have your students thinking on their feet and engaging with their peers in no time. So, go ahead—try it out in your next class, and see who can lie the best!
